The Explore Royal Deeside GeoTour has been set up by Visit Royal Deeside with assistance from Scottish Enterprise and the Cairngorm National Park Authority to further enhance the experience of our visitors to Deeside. The Official Geotour (20 caches in total) runs along the Deeside Way from Drumoak to Ballater, continuing up to Braemar. To add to your enjoyment, there are also a number of mini-trails leading you into some of Deeside’s historic landmarks, local estates, iconic villages, forestry trails and lochside walks – some 70 new caches in total have been hidden throughout the valley with more in the pipeline. All the caches are freely available – happy hunting!

For those of you keen to add to the adventure, we are running an Explore Royal Deeside passport alongside the Geotour. A specially commissioned trackable Geocoin has been set up as a bonus to those who stay, eat, have fun or shop with our Participating Businesses How does it work?…….

40 blank boxes – Fill in 25 to claim a Silver Coin or all 40 to claim a Gold Coin

The boxes can be filled in by….

  • Finding a code word in each of the 20 available ERD caches located along the Deeside Way – One code word per box
  • 1 code also available in the Dee n’ Do Magazine widely available to read in most hospitality outlets in the area.
  • Stamps available from all participating businesses – 1 stamp for every £10 spent, can return to the same business again and again!

The passport has no expiry date – although coins are limited – so can be filled in over a number of visits to the area. The passport can also be filled in with any combination of code words and stamps.

We will keep you updated on progress and new trails as they go live through FaceBook and Twitter
