The River Dee flows from its source high up in the Cairngorm Mountains, passing through 85 miles of some of the world’s most stunning scenery until it finally reaches the sea at Aberdeen’s historic harbour.

Several picturesque towns and villages are situated along the Dee, including Banchory, Aboyne, Ballater and Braemar. All offer shopping, accommodation and outdoor activities, including walking, fishing, golfing, mountain biking and skiing. Traditional highland games and agricultural shows take place from July to September, where visitors can mingle with the locals to watch anything from a caber toss to a highland fling.
