The River Dee is widely known as one of the great salmon rivers of the world. Anyone who has ever cast a fly for Atlantic salmon will know the allure of our river. A warm welcome awaits the keen anglers on the varied beats of the local estates – some of them including their own ghillie. Many come in search of the ultimate prize - a Dee springer taken on the fly.
As you will have heard in the media, the river turned to her wild side during storm Frank and left her mark on several local villages and their communities. Nevertheless, the estates and communities have rallied together to get the river ready for her “Opening Ceremony” – The toast & first cast of the season will be held this year at Banchory Lodge Hotel.
Excitement is in the air as a new river landscape, with its new pools, is getting ready to be explored for the first time as the season opens on the 1st February. Experienced ghillies & fishers are keen to see what secrets the river has to share. The new fishy tales & occasional tall story will add to the excitement that keeps our river bringing people back to share the great outdoors in Royal Deeside. “Tight lines” everyone!
